Lionel Andrés Messi is an Argentinean international football player, who now performs in the First Division of the FC Barcelona and is on Argentina’s national team. Lionel was born June 24, 1987 in Rosario. Messi was often labelled in the media as New Maradona by Diego Maradona himself openly as his “successor.”

Messi started his journey at the age of 5 where he was taught by his father who was a coach at a local club called Grandoli. In 1995, Messi switched to Newell’s Old Boys.

Later when he was at the age of 13, he moved to Barcelona with his family to play for FC Barcelona, there he started as Under 14 team of FC Barcelona.

He is recognised as his generation’s best football player and one of the best in the sport’s history. Messi has garnered multiple nominations by age 21, and has won in 2009 and 2010, for the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year.
